The Japanese eat rice with all their meals.
Most homes have an electric rice cooker, so that there's a supply ready at all
hours of the day!
3 tablespoons cooking oil
1/2 inch ginger root
1 clove garlic
3/4 cup short grain rice
3 cups water
pinch of salt
9 ounces green vegetables (like baby spinach or frozen peas)
Wash, trim and chop the

garlic. Heat the oil in a wok or wide pan. Add the leeks,
ginger and garlic and fry gently for five minutes. Add the rice
and stir for a few minutes. Add the water and the salt and
simmer for ten minutes. Add the green vegetables to the pan.
Simmer for ten minutes or until the rice is tender.
